Bokyung Bonnie
Kim
Ms. Kim is a native of
Seoul, Korea.
She received her Master’s and Professional Studies Degrees from
Manhattan School of Music in
New York City. Before that, she studied in
Paris, France, and received a 1st Prize Diploma from CNR de Saint
Maur and Conservatoire du Municipal de Paris.
As a student,
Ms. Kim won numerous prizes, including the Bellin, Nerini, L’UFAM,
and Young Artist Competitions in
France
and the Music Association Club Competition in
Korea. She has performed concerts
in Weil Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall and many prestigious concert
venues in
Korea.
Much of Ms. Kim’s
music career has been devoted to teaching young flutists. She was on
the faculty of Manhattan School of Music, Preparatory Division, for
eleven years. During that time, as well as during a three-year
residence in
Seoul, Ms. Kim guided numerous students into
America’s most prestigious music
conservatories, including The Julliard School, Curtis Institute,
Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes Conservatory. Her students
have also won numerous competitions, including the National Flute
Association High School Soloist.
Since moving to the
Tidewater area with her husband, a native of
Virginia Beach, and her two young children, Ms. Kim has
continued her teaching career, as well as her performing career,
both as a soloist and as a member of Creo, the contemporary music
ensemble in residence at
Old Dominion
University. She is currently an adjunct
faculty member of Old
Dominion University
and TCC, and also teaches at the Academy
of Music in
Norfolk. |
